GLP-1 Weight Management

GLP-1 weight management, managed by a physician

GLP-1 medications can be a legitimate part of medical weight management. They are a treatment that requires evaluation, monitoring and follow-up — not a product to be ordered.

Overview

About this care at Direct Prime Care

GLP-1 receptor agonists — the class that includes semaglutide and the GLP-1/GIP medication tirzepatide — act on pathways that influence appetite, satiety and blood sugar regulation. For some patients they meaningfully support weight management alongside nutrition and activity changes.

Whether any medication is appropriate depends on your medical history, current medications, examination and laboratory findings, and applicable clinical guidelines. Some patients should not take these medications, and no medication is prescribed without an evaluation by a licensed physician.

At Direct Prime Care, GLP-1 treatment sits inside comprehensive medical care rather than beside it. Dr. Shvets is a family medicine physician: the same visit that addresses weight also considers blood pressure, lipids, blood sugar, thyroid function, medications and other conditions. Side effects, dose changes and monitoring are handled by the physician who knows your full history.

Medication cost is separate from the practice's fees. Medication is dispensed by a pharmacy and billed by that pharmacy; availability and price are outside the practice's control.

Common questions

Questions patients ask

Will I be prescribed a GLP-1 medication?

Not automatically. Medication is prescribed only when it is clinically appropriate after a physician evaluation. Some patients are better served by other approaches, and some should not take these medications at all.

Which medications might be considered?

Options may include GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and the GLP-1/GIP medication tirzepatide, among other treatments, depending on your evaluation, history and what is appropriate and available for you.

Is medication included in the monthly fee?

No. Program fees cover physician evaluation, management and follow-up. Medication is billed separately by the pharmacy.

What monitoring is required?

Monitoring is individualized and may include follow-up visits, weight and vital sign review, side-effect assessment and laboratory testing when indicated.

How much weight will I lose?

No outcome can be promised. Response varies between individuals, and results depend on medical factors, treatment tolerance and sustained nutrition and activity changes.
