Medical Weight Management

Medical weight management in Winter Haven, Florida

Weight is a medical issue, not a willpower test. Dr. Tetyana Shvets, DO evaluates the whole picture — history, metabolism, medications and laboratory findings — then builds a plan and follows it with you over time.

Overview

Weight care inside real primary care

This is a family medicine practice, not a medication storefront. That changes what weight treatment looks like.

Medical weight management begins with an evaluation: your weight and medical history, current medications, prior attempts, sleep, activity, examination findings, and laboratory testing where it is indicated. Conditions that affect weight — thyroid disease, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, blood pressure and lipid problems — are identified and treated rather than ignored.

From there the plan is individualized. Nutrition and activity guidance are part of every plan. Where medication is clinically appropriate, options are discussed openly, including expected benefits, common side effects, contraindications and alternatives. GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and the GLP-1/GIP medication tirzepatide may be considered when they fit your medical situation.

Because Dr. Tetyana Shvets is your physician rather than a prescriber you never see again, follow-up visits address the whole patient — blood pressure, blood sugar, medications, tolerance and progress together.

Common questions

Questions patients ask

How is medical weight management different from a commercial weight-loss program?

A medical program begins with a physician evaluation of your health, medications, laboratory findings and weight history. Treatment is individualized, monitored over time and adjusted clinically — rather than a fixed product, meal plan or subscription applied to everyone.

Do I have to be a Direct Primary Care member?

No. Medical weight management is available on its own. Active Direct Primary Care members pay a reduced monthly weight-management fee, which is shown on the pricing cards.

Is medication always part of the plan?

No. Whether medication is appropriate depends on your evaluation, medical history and applicable clinical guidelines. Some patients are managed without medication.

Are labs included?

Laboratory testing is available through the practice. Where labs are not included in a program, they are billed separately and the cost is explained beforehand.

Can visits be virtual?

The initial medical evaluation is performed in person in Winter Haven where possible. Follow-up visits can often be handled by telemedicine for patients elsewhere in Polk County and across Florida when clinically appropriate.

What happens after I reach my goal?

Care shifts to maintenance: the least intensive plan that remains clinically appropriate, with continued monitoring so progress is sustained rather than reversed.
